Welcome To The Garden

IMG_20170201_135228Welcome to Weeds and Wildflowers!  My name is Maggie Hlywa (Ha – Lay – Wa), and if you have found this site I imagine that you are probably looking for a Life Coach.  I thought I would take a brief moment to introduce myself and give you a little bit of background about me.

Growing up very close to the Irish side of my family, I would hear lots of the old Irish blessings.  One of my very favorites was:

May Your Weeds Always Be Wildflowers

The idea was that you could take the “weeds” in your life, and through a change in perspective, turn them into Wildflowers.   Sometimes, its not the actual “weeds” that hold us back, but the attitude that we hold towards them.   Together, we can face those weeds and develop a plan to find your Wildflowers!

Just like anyone, I can be described with a bunch of different labels that, even when put together, don’t quite get at the real substance of who I am.  But at least they offer a starting point, right?  I am a teacher, I have taught science from 6th grade to college freshmen in a lab setting.  I am a single mom of 3, sometimes it is a proud mom of wonderful teens and preteens, other times it is the harried mom of a 3 ring circus in action.  Either version you meet up with, they are bringing light to my world and reminding me about what is truly important to me.  I am a trauma survivor, a difficult and conscious switch in mentality I made after years of counseling and then coaching to find the wisdom within myself to break the victim pattern.  I am also a volunteer at non profits, love my kids and my pup, enjoy a good road trip, and am a silver lining mining optimist.

Why do I mention this all to you?  Why does it matter?  Because the coaching relationship is a co-creative one.  It is truly collaborative.  And it has to start by you feeling comfortable enough with me (or any coach) to even reach out to see if we might be compatible.  And its ok if it takes a few tries to find that perfect match.  As coaches, our goal is to help you reach your potential, even if it isn’t with us (or me) specifically.

May your inner wisdom lead you to the right coach and your day be filled with blessings!  And when you look out among the world around you, may you be able to see the Wildflowers among the weeds.
